The 3-manual, 53 rank Schlicker pipe organ is the crown jewel of the music
ministry at First Lutheran. It was dedicated on April 3, 1966. Dr. David Johnson
was the recitalist. The new digital, solid state console, installed in the fall
of 2003 by Nordlie Organ Company of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, enables the
organist to capture and replay music, providing flexible options for the music
ministry.
The organ is built according to the basic principles of the classic organ,
using classic ideals of organ voicing. At the same time, it is designed so that
literature from all periods of organ composition can be played on it.
The tonal design was conceived so that the organ would have the finest
possible ensembles available for leading hymn singing and for the music of the
service. First Lutheran can rejoice gratefully in having one of the finest
instruments in the country, and one which is capable of being used for all
worthy organ literature and by the most skilled organists.
